The Newport Mesa Arts Commission

On Thursday, March 29, 2012 the Newport Mesa Arts Commission re-convened at the Environmental Nature Center. Some of the participants were original members from its beginnings in 2007 and some were new additions.

The day was truly a creative and collaborative experience. Newport Mesa is a great believer and supporter of the Arts in Education. The Commission continued with the Strategic Arts Education Plan that was developed over the past few years. We highlighted 4 areas of concentration and brainstormed the next steps in our action plans.

We were entertained by the Newport Coast Orchestra under the direction of Alanah Ntzouras during our morning break and the Costa Mesa High School Madrigals directed by Jon Lindfors in the afternoon.

We ended the day reviewing all of our ideas and documented our plans to keep improving and expanding the Strategic Arts Plan for the District. Our next meeting will be at the end of May.

On behalf of the California Alliance for Arts Education I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Suhr, Director of Elementary Education for and Scott Fitzpatrick for all of the hard work and planning that made the day a success.
