Re: Arts Learning in Action: Celebrate Arts Education Month in March 2007!
Dear____________________,
Our learning community at [insert name of school/district] is pleased to invite you to experience arts learning in action at our school on Friday, March [insert date] at [insert time] o’clock.
Our school/district joins Former U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige in his assertion that the arts are a vital component to every child’s education. In his letter to 16,000 superintendents nationwide, Secretary Paige stated, “As I travel the country, I often hear that arts education programs are endangered because of No Child Left Behind [NCLB]. This message…is both disturbing and just plain wrong. The truth is that NCLB included the arts as a core academic subject because of their importance to a child's education… For both the important knowledge and skills they impart and the ways in which they help students to succeed in school and in life, the arts are an important part of a complete education. As we work together to implement NCLB, let's ensure that all children have the opportunity to learn and to grow in and through the arts.”
[Insert name of your school/district/organization] is committed to supporting arts education for all students. We join others in a statewide campaign with the California State PTA and the California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) to bring elected officials into our schools to witness the power of arts learning during the month of March, designated as Arts Education Month.
Please join us for….[short description of your event]
We look forward to your participation. Please RSVP by [insert date] to: [insert name and contact information].
Sincerely,
President, __________ PTA Principal, [insert school name]
