in March 2009!
The objective of the Arts Learning in Action campaign is to raise awareness among state, county and local elected officials about the essential value of arts education in our schools.
The California State PTA and the Alliance have developed a tool, enabling schools and districts to bring elected officials into our schools to witness the power of learning in the arts during the month of March.
We are encouraged by the new arts education funding coming to districts, and are challenged to both ensure that this money is well spent and that it is ongoing. How can we ensure that these funds will continue to be a priority in Sacramento and a reality for our students?
We urge you to take this opportunity to educate our lawmakers by demonstrating the power of arts learning during this critical period of budget deliberations. First-hand experience with the arts is a powerful tool; having the opportunity to witness students’ engagement, joy, enthusiasm and learning has great impact on any observer. If we want arts education to survive and thrive in our schools, we need to demonstrate the value of arts education for our children by inviting decision-makers and elected officials into our classrooms to experience learning in the arts first-hand.
Here’s how you can get involved: Coordinate with interested educators, administrators, parents and community members to invite your local elected officials to experience arts learning at your school (your school board, mayor, city council, county board of education, and county supervisors).
The Arts Learning in Action Toolkit is an organizational “how to” which includes:
