THE 2018 CANDIDATE SURVEY PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED!
Surveys were sent to candidates in all registered districts on September 17, 2018.
WHAT: The California Alliance for Arts Education’s Candidate Survey Project invites local school board candidates across California to go on record with their views about the role of arts education in local schools. The results, published on the Alliance website, will be promoted before the November election to prospective voters statewide, giving the public a way to learn more about candidates’ views on arts education policy before they vote.
WHY: In recent years, local school boards have been given increasing control over how education dollars are spent. The passage of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) in 2013 solidified that shift, giving local school boards the power to decide what programs are funded. Effective advocacy for arts education programs target local school board members, and elections provide a valuable opportunity.
Candidate surveys provide a time-based, newsworthy way to raise awareness about the value of arts education in public schools. They educate candidates and the public about the issue, and spark ongoing conversations and relationships between local school board members and advocates. You can check which districts will have open county and district school board seats at your county election offices.
HOW: A three question online survey will be emailed to local school board candidates across California in the fall. Let us know what district you're in so we can be sure to include YOUR local candidates for the upcoming 2020 school board elections! The Alliance also provides tools for voters to follow up with their local candidates, including a letter template to encourage them to participate, candidate contact information, and step-by-step instructions.
All results will be published and available on the Alliance website before the election in an easy-to-follow visually driven format.
