Building the Pipeline

FOR DANCE AND THEATRE CREDENTIALS IN CALIFORNIA

WHY THE PIPELINE?

The reestablishment of dance and theatre credentials for teachers in California was realized with the passage of SB 916 in 2016. A teacher education pathway needs to be established from high school, through dance and theatre departments in colleges and universities, and into teacher credentialing programs so that credentialed teachers can be prepared to educate California’s students.

There is some urgency in building this pipeline. If a dance or theatre position is vacated without a credentialed teacher ready to fill the gap, schools may simply drop programs altogether.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS WEBPAGE

  • To provide viewers with a comprehensive resource of information related to the advancement of the Dance and Theatre Credentials
  • To support the efforts of the California Dance Education Association (CDEA) and California Educational Theatre Association (CETA) to establish this pipeline
  • To provide updates about the final steps towards reestablishing the credentials, as well as information about undergraduate programs, teacher credentialing programs, and FAQs.
  • To serve as source of information and connection for this community – the professional organizations CDEA and CETA, community colleges, undergraduate departments, arts organizations, and those involved in teacher preparation.
